Samsung Tv Auto Tune Air Or Cable Average ratng: 3,7/5 3128 votes

I turned off Sky yesterday - all was working fine - just wanted to save some money.
I disconnected my Skybox and plugged the cables from the Sky dish into my Samsung TV and tried to tune in Freesat but am not getting any channels. Like I said, Sky works fine so it is not a dish / cable issue.
The Samsung TV is model UE46F7000ST. It supports Freesat and tuning in Freesat is one of the options (along with normal satellite, aerial, cable).
Again - freesat is built in (it is an option when I go to tune).
Any ideas why this is not working? Many thanks!

Adding digital TV channels to watch is a pretty simple process - check out the step by step guide below. The channel search picked up 5 analgue channels and 0 freeview channels. Now, my old Samsung TV was a bit rubbish with regard to tuner sensitivity, but had been fine since the block of flats I live in (postcode SW1V in London) had a brand new aerial fitted a.

Check the f connectors weren't loosened when you swapped them over (screwed them firmly onto the coax). Can you access the manual tune option ? If so check you have a signal from the freesat home transponder
11425.00 H DVB-S QPSK 27500 2/3 Note the frequency may not be shown as exactly 11425.
    Next check
    11426.00 V DVB-S QPSK 27500 5/6

Another connector issue I've seen if you are a bit ham fisted with the F-Types is bending the inner pin up into the body of the plug rather than it going into the hole in the socket on the TV.
Can an LNB be damaged if you connect and disconnect with the Sky box or TV powered up at the time?

You could have left the skybox connected, and the card would have switched to FSFS mode, since you cancelled your subscription

It will still cost X amount a year to run a sky box even in FSFS mode, not even recording, fyi.

Some TV's default to the first method of FTA channels you chose so if you chose FREEVIEW it might be trying to tune into FREEVIEW Channel's .
Have you made sure you're tuning a FREESAT tuner on the TV?

With both satellite cables connected to the back of the TV, go to Menu, Broadcasting, Auto Tune and it should prompt you with a Postcode and then it will tune in Freesat
Failing that do a system reset - Menu, Support... http://www.samsung.com/ie/support/skp/faq/1051919

Indeed, where X is the cost of electricity, nothing more.

True, but a Sky box, unless put into full standby (only possible on HD boxes, holding standby button until light goes red instead of amber), only shuts down its video outputs when you shut it off.
The receiver stays active to receive the 'keep alive' signal for the viewing card and other updates, whereas a Freesat receiver shuts down to a very minimal power consumption (basically just the IR receiver and timer) when shut down.
There could be a quite noticeable difference in the amount of power used over 12 months.

About £20.00 or so depending on tariff.

Sorry - been traveling for work and will check these today.
I did have a very hard time in getting the connectors on and was really surprised at that. So will look at that. I will also try the manual tuning trick to see if I can get a base signal.
The TV specifically asked for my post code and as I mentioned, said FREESAT when I did the tuning. For grins, I used a normal Ariel and tuned in some FREEVIEW channels just to see if that worked.
I know I could have left the Sky box in but did not see the point? It was one less box in the area (I also have an HTPC, router, PI, ...) so figured why not go directly to the TV as it should work.

OK - all sorted. My connectors must not have been seated properly. They were not bent but they must not have been screwed in as tightly as they could have been. Feel like a numpty. :-)
Thanks for all the help and happy 2017!

Makes sense to me, why use extra electricity if you can't record anything. Also the epg will have loads of channels you can't watch. Doesn't your TV allow recording to a usb drive, most modern smart TV's do ?
Failure at the postcode validation stage is what you will get if the freesat home transponder is not receivable. The postcode database needs to be downloaded from the home transponder. If the connections are OK and you can't get the Horizontally polarised home transponder but can get the Vertically polarised one with much the same frequency, the lnb skew may need tweaking.
EDIT OP posted solution while I was typing

If you've just bought a new TV, or are rescanning to get NewsChannel 5, please follow the instructions below. Have a different brand of TV? Head to our antenna home and select the model of TV you own.

There are dozens of models of Samsung TVs. The instructions below cover the most popular models, but may not work for all.

Each TV manufacturer uses a different term to describe a rescan. Most Samsung TV's call their rescan function 'Auto Program' or 'Auto Tuning'

TRY THESE FIRST. If you've been into your TV's settings before, these instructions should help you rescan your TV.

1. Select 'Menu' on your remote
2. Choose the 'Channel' or 'Broadcasting' menu. (The exact menu name will differ based on your model)
3. Select 'Auto Program'
4. If you're prompted whether to scan for 'Air' or 'Cable,' select 'Air.' (Many TVs may not ask, and will scan for both automatically)

Samsung Smart TVs -- 2017 models and above. (Includes 4K, OLED, Q series, Quantom Dot TVs)

1. Select 'Home' on your remote. (The 'menu' button looks like a small house)

2. Choose the 'Settings' menu. (It's a small gear icon on the far botton left of the menu)

3. Choose 'Broadcasting' in the Settings menu, then 'Auto Tuning'

4. You should get a prompt to 'Press Start to search for and save channels,' as well as a warning that the search will erase your current channel list. Click 'Start' (Note: The purpose of the scan is to erase your current list, but replace it with an updated list)

5. You may be prompted whether to scan for 'Both, Air or Cable.' Either 'Air' or 'Both' will scan for antenna channels.

You're done!

Samsung Smart TV's -- 2014-2017 models

These instructions are similar to those above, with the biggest difference being the remote.

1. Select 'Menu' on your remote. (2016 model remotes say 'Settings')

2. Select 'Broadcasting' in the menu (2014 model TV's may say 'Channel' instead)

3. Select 'Auto Program'

Samsung Tv Auto Tune Air Or Cable Line

Once the tuning finishes, you're done!

Samsung non-smart TV's (All models)

These are all Samsung TV's that don't connect to the internet, and includes most models made before 2014. There are numerous models of non-smart TV's from Samsung, too many to have specific instructions by model. The instructions below should work on most Samsung televisions, but there may be minor variations by device.

Samsung Tv Auto Tune Air Or Cable Tv

1. Press the 'Menu' button on your remote. (On many remotes, it will say 'Menu' and have three boxes below it')

2. Choose 'Channel' in the menu. (Some newer models may have 'Broadcasting' instead)

3. Select 'Auto Program' or 'Auto Tune'

4. Your TV may ask whether to program 'Air' or 'Cable.' If it does, select 'Air' This will tell your TV you're looking for antenna channels.
